DIY: Long, Lustrous Lashes

So you want long, lustrous eyelashes without all the hassle?  Then this DIY is for you! It’s so easy, and really works.

If you want to go ahead and give yourself a false-eyelash look, I’ve included additional non-DIY instructions for that too!

Let the fun begin with, quite possibly, the easiest essential oil DIY project.

Make the Switch to Better Makeup!

So, I would not consider myself an expert on chemicals in beauty products.  I do know a few things about a some of the most common chemicals in our makeup.  You can read about in my post about Toxin-Free Mineral Makeup

Yet, I’ll share with you a short list of common mascara ingredients that should raise some red flags:

  • Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, and Propylparaben. Parabens are used as preservatives.
  • Thimerosal.
  • Synthetic Dyes.
  • Coal Tar Dyes.
  • Aluminum Powder.
  • Retinyl Acetate (Vitamin A Acetate)
  • Formaldehyde.
  • Imidazolidinyl Urea.

A few notes: Basically, be kind. I am being vulnerable here.

I am using a REALLY cheap mascara here because I just needed a stand-in until October 14 when Savvy Minerals by Young Living releases the long-awaited mascara.  I enjoy all make up, it really is a fun thing for me.  However, if I could only have one thing for the rest of my life I would 100% pick mascara.

I don’t feel like I HAVE to wear makeup, but now that I have beautiful makeup that I don’t have to worry about being questionable, I really enjoy doing my makeup.

Me over here?  Just a regular mom who pops on her makeup between helping little ones get to the potty, and clean up glitter-slime messes.  I haven’t had my eyebrows waxed probably all year, and you can see it it my photos.

Because I’m firmly in the Hot Mess Moms camp, I didn’t want to edit the pictures and give false impressions.  I have speckles of eyeshadow on my cheek, a blotchy spot of application and a good-ole iPhone shadow on my face.  Oh, and you can see the painter’s tape indicating that our dining room wall still needs a second coat, one month after we started.

To DIY Long, Lustrous Eyelashes You will need:

  • 3 drops Cedarwood
  • 3 drops Lavender
  • 3 drops Ylang Ylang
  • Full tube of Mascara

Steps:

  1. Add essential oils to tube of mascara and mix.
  2. Apply to lashes
  3. Wait for it!!

I wish I had done before & afters, but I noticed longer lashes in 3 weeks.  I started using this recipe in July, and after 3 weeks I could actually SEE my eyelashes in the mirror, without getting closer.
