DIY Hand Purifier: Safe, Effective and Affordable!

DIY Hand PurifierHand purifier is such a great thing to keep in your kids bags, diaper bag or your own.  It seems there is always a need when you are out and about.  Learn how to DIY Hand Purifier for just a few bucks and a few minutes.

A few months ago, my daughter went on a cross-country weekend trip with my mom.  This is one of the projects she did in preparation for her trip.  Everything she made fit TSA standards for a carry-on bag.  We re-used a Young Living Thieves Hand Purifier for her container. She enjoyed taking ownership as she prepared for her trip.  I loved knowing that all her products were made of ingredients we know are body-safe.

2 ounce squeeze bottle

Metal Funnel

3T Aloe Vera Gel

1/8 t Vitamin E oil

1T Filtered Water

5 drops Thieves Essential Oil Blend Thieves Essential Oil is one of the 11 starter kit oils!

Thieves?  What?

Yes, Thieves Essential Oil Blend is one of Young Living’s most popular products and has inspired an entire line of cleaning products.  Have you hear the story of the Thieves? Inspired by the legend of four 15th-century French thieves who formulated a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals used while robbing the dead and dying, Young Living offers it as an essential oil blend that no home should be without!

How to DIY Hand Purifier:

  1.  Combine Aloe Vera Gel, Vitamin E Oil, Filtered water and Thieves Essential Oil in a bowl.
  2. Use your funnel and pour the mixture into your squeeze bottle.
  3. Shake before use, a little goes a long way!

Triclosan & “Fragrance” Free!

Besides the cost savings of making your own, you get control of the ingredients.  The Environmental Working Group advises against using hand-sanitizers containing triclosan and fragrance as they are dangerous to your health.  The EWG suggests alcohol-based purifiers instead, provided you avoid artificial fragrance.

In 2016, the FDA ruled that companies can no longer market over-the-counter anti-septics that contain Triclosan, many products continue to use triclosan that fall outside of the jurisdiction of the FDA so it’s something to be aware of as a consumer.

You get the moisturizing benefits of Aloe & Vitamin E, and the fragrance and cleansing power of Thieve Essential Oil

This recipe costs you about $2.25 plus the cost of the squeeze bottle.
